Kevin’s street art bringing colour to the Cumberland Centre

Visitors to Devonport’s Cumberland Centre are now being welcomed by colourful murals celebrating diversity, thanks to the efforts of Kevin Davison – a member of Livewell’s Personality Disorder Service as well as part of the Plymouth Artists Together group.

The Plymouth Artists Together group was set up by Mike Vosper of the Youth Offending Team to help combat illegal graffiti tagging (where people ‘tag’ their names), with backing from Plymouth City Council.

Kevin said: “When Mike approached me to work on this piece, I immediately recognised the building as being outside the Cumberland Centre due to having worked there previously with the Parkinson’s Team.

“I’m really proud to have been selected for the project and having it on display in a prominent place in the city is the icing on the cake.”

Kevin said: “It’s been a bit of an epic journey creating the 5 pieces of artwork, and I have to admit it has taken me a bit longer than expected, but I’m really proud to have been selected for the project and having it on display in a prominent place in the city is the icing on the cake.”

The murals were officially unveiled on Monday 24 January, with Kevin giving an interview to Plymouth Live (click here to read), while the BBC have also visited.

A member of the public told the BBC the portraits were “really lovely” and said “it lifts the area.”
