Wednesday 27th February saw 11 social workers at Livewell Southwest come together with senior managers to celebrate their successful completion of the ASYE programme.
The ASYE (Assessed and Supported Year in Employment) is a twelve month programme that gives newly qualified social workers extra support during their first year of employment and aims to develop their skills, knowledge and professional confidence.
Opening the celebration, Principal Social Worker Kerry Dodd spoke about the ingredients required to make 11 successful ASYE’s:
- 77 hours of reviews
- 66 hours of Practice Educator Supervision
- 66 hours of being observed
- 5 hours of caseload supervision
- 6 days of action learning sets
- 20 days of personal learning and development time
- Extra time taken to write your reflective work
- Time for Practice Teachers to plan and assess work
Receiving certificates commemorating their achievements were Richard Hallam, Tarnya Moran, Joanne Rodd, Charlotte Silk, Felicity McGuinness, Heather Bungey, Jade Symons, Semgungile Uledi, Catherine McMonagle, Jaime Bannerman, and Peri Brown. They were presented by Principal Social Worker, Kerry Dodd, and Practice Teachers Julie Waite and Lawrence Badman.
Kerry said, “Everybody rose to the challenge, meeting the milestones despite the pressures of the day job, and Practice Teachers Julie and Lawrence have enjoyed seeing everybody develop over the course of the year.
“It has been lovely to hear of everyone’s unique journey through the ASYE through their impressive presentations to the final panel, and we ask our newly qualified social workers to strive forward under the banner of social work, leading on peer supervision sessions, elegantly challenging other professionals, asking ‘care-frontational’ questions, and supporting new workers.”
Kerry’s words were echoed by Locality Manager Ian Lightley and Deputy Manager Elena Sirotenco, who congratulated the group on their success.
