Now in its 12th year, National Apprenticeship Week is a celebration of the impact of apprenticeships on individuals, employers and the economy. This week, 4th – 8th March, Livewell Southwest is highlighting the fantastic opportunities available for those interested in an apprenticeship, as well as looking at the experiences of some our apprentices.
Yesterday we looked at the different career paths available to Livewell Southwest apprentices, as well as taking a look back at the experiences of past apprentices Lauren Bancroft and Bronwyn Shaw, who both secured permanent positions with Livewell Southwest on completion of their apprenticeships. For the remainder of the week, we’ll be talking to current apprentices to find out what they think about their experience so far.
Sonia Prater is undertaking a Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship with the West Locality Health Visiting team.
Sonia says, “My current role includes carrying out administrative tasks for the West Locality Health Visiting team, such as answering the phone, dealing with team emails, updating and printing electronic records, and ordering stationery and supplies for the office alongside any other tasks that the Health Visitors require help with.
“I decided on an apprenticeship so that I could gain a qualification in the area of work that I am interested in, the biggest draw being that I could earn money while I was learning.
“The best thing about my apprenticeship is having real purpose – I work with good people in a good team, and I know that the work I do is appreciated.”
“If there is anyone out there currently considering an apprenticeship, I would say it is definitely worth doing. Not only do you gain valuable skills whilst being paid, but it often leads to a job at the end. The company will be likely to offer you a permanent contract if you can show what a good job you do.”
